![]() ![]() What's installed onto the car is a kit similar to this OLM fog light kit. Originally, the fr-s came from the factory with a blank in the headlamp adjuster location, and only has 1 square button for the trunk. Those are brz headlight housings that it appears they also installed the motorized height adjusters on- that's what the second knob is on that same control panel. The person that had the fr-s before you has done some significant lighting upgrades. Is there a way to bench test the relay to determine how it functions? Thanks for the help! I tried googling it but didn't find much (nothing, really) in the way of a schematic or any info on what type it is. Very simply, from the switch: the black is ground, the two reds are spliced together and go to the relay, and the yellow would go to a switched 12v source.does that make sense?Īs for the relay, it says Zong 12V/40A but not other information on it. So.now I'm thinking the Yellow wire that has the spade terminal on it (in the engine bay) went to some switched power source in the engine bay. ![]() I tested the switch and it appears the top two (R/Y) are open/closed by the switch. ![]() So, I felt around on the sheathing and found a "blob" so I peeled it back and the two red wires are spliced together about a foot from the switch. That confused me because I only found 3 wires in the harness once it passed into the engine bay. There are 4 wires out of the switch (R/Y/R/Bk). I pulled the kick panel to take a look at the wiring inside the cabin. Can't wait to contort myself into a pretzel to get at the fuse panel :-) I'll see what I can find today and go from there. Maybe it has another wire not passing through the firewall and is connected at the fuse panel. I haven't pulled the panel to look at the back of the switch.will do that today. SPST/SPDT? I used Bosch pattern SPDTs and just capped the yellow (normally closed) wire. How many wires does your switch have? What sort of relay are you using. I grounded the black wire from the relay and all was cool. I ran power from there to both the yellow and red wires on the switch and then ran the blue to the positive side of the trigger circuit (white wire) on the relay. Since I have a standard and that fuse is adjacent to a series of open slots on the board that worked well. In my installation, I installed a fuse-tap in the circuit that has some relationship to the auto transmission. The black wire was the ground for the light circuit and the blue was the power out when the switch was closed. One was for the power that was being switched and the other to power the light(s) in the switch. The red and yellow wires were for 12v input. I used a switch that looks identical to yours. I'm guessing that since you seem to be using the ground to switch the circuit you're running the power to both the hi side of the relay and the positive relay trigger directly from the battery. I can't tell exactly what relays you're using, but they generally have power in - power out and positive and negative leads for the trigger circuit. ![]() You can do that, but I don't think you'll be able to make use of the lighting feature on the switch. From your wiring diagram it looks like you're switching the ground. The contacts aren't even there for the fuse and relay.I recently installed a set of DD fogs on my BRZ. Unfortunately, none of that wiring exists as an unused portion of the stock wire harness. I'm going to use a fuse tap on one of the headlight low beam fuses to supply 12 volts to the fog light switch instead of pulling it from under the dash.įrom looking at the wiring diagrams, I figured out where the factory fuse and relay would have been in the fuse/relay box under the hood. Normally, just the wire from the fog light switch to the relay would go through, but I'm going to run a second wire that will provide power to the switch. My plan to get the functionality that I want is to run an extra wire through the firewall. I also got the lower dash pulled apart, so I could have a look at things. I got the lights mounted and mounted/wired the relay this afternoon. Everything under the dash is too well wrapped/loomed to get at easily. From what I've been able to figure out from looking at wiring diagrams, the wiring for the headlights goes straight from the switch on the steering wheel to the fuse/relay box under the hood. While technically I could tap into the right wire to do this under the dash, finding the right wire would be a major PITA. ![]()
